| Following the success of the Blackcurrant No Added Sugar spread at this year’s Taste Awards, The Wooden Spoon has launched a new packaging design for its range.
These high fruit content spreads
are produced in exactly the same way as all Wooden Spoon preserves:
Traditional cooking method, rarely more than 90 jars per cook, completely
by hand. Uniquely, the sugar is replaced by apple juice concentrate,
providing a true fruit taste. The range is aimed at people who are
looking for a lower sugar intake, and is also suitable to diabetics.
The latter should still need to consult the nutritional chart on the
back label to ensure that they consume in line with medical advice.
‘We are unable to call these jams or marmalades, as at least 25% sugar is required to be called even a ‘low sugar jam’, explains Master Preserver Val Law, ‘but the resulting taste is wonderful and we are not totally surprised that we won a Silver medal at the Taste Awards for our Blackcurrant Spread in the jam category’!
The company also won Gold for its
Pilgrims Raspberry Extra Jam, whilst its Gooseberry in Sloe Gin earned
the Guild of Fine Food Retailers’ Reserve Best Speciality from the South East 2005.
